Spring Valley, DC Homes For Sale

Historically, the Spring Valley area was purposed for chemical munitions testing by the US Army around World War I.  Chemical warfare testing, an unfortunate hallmark of the First World War, was not publicly uncovered in Spring Valley until 1993, when residential utility trench-digging unearthed unexploded ordinances. Proximal soil tests revealed high levels of toxic chemicals, like arsenic, putting into motion large scale clean-up efforts spearheaded by the US Army Corp of Engineers. To date, over $220 million has been used to rectify the problem and to study ongoing public health effects. In spite of anecdotal health-related case reports and media exposure, the region’s prestige and home prices, has continued to soar.
