The Fort Totten neighborhood and park are located in the Northwest quadrant of Washington DC. It’s outlined north by Riggs Rd. NE, east by Red Line Metro tracks, south by Hawaii Ave. NE, and west by North Capitol St. NE. The name honors General Joseph Gilbert Totten, who was a pre-Civil War Chief Engineer of the US Army, Smithsonian Institution regent, and co-founder of the National Academy of Sciences.
