Woodridge, DC Homes For Sale

The suburban-like, slowly rejuvenating Woodridge neighborhood is located in the Northeast quadrant of Washington DC. This largely rectangular area borders Maryland and is generally outlined northeast by Eastern Ave. NE, southeast by Bladensburg Rd. NE, southwest by South Dakota Ave. NE, and northwest by Michigan Ave. NE. The area began as woodlands and farms, but the subdivision officially took root in the early 20th century. Presumably named for the wooded and hilly ridges it occupied, this residential neighborhood developed mostly in the 1920s and 1930s. Today, there’s an assortment of comparatively large, detached, eclectically-styled (bungalow, colonial, craftsman, Sears kit) homes with spacious yards to be found. The main commercial corridor is Rhode Island Ave. NW, part of the Great Streets development plan, and has seen several recent business openings (Zeke’s Coffee of DC, Sala Thai, Manny & Olga’s Pizza, and KAAOS Gym). The other commercial avenue is Bladensburg Rd. NE, where DC Brau, a popular local craft brewery, opened.

Woodridge mixes older established residents with younger newcomers, who have been drawn into the area by affordable housing. While the area slowly continues to bloom, prospecting buyers are banking on continued commercial development and rising popularity. In fact, Redfin is calling it one of the hottest neighborhoods for 2015. Needless to say, Woodridge has lots of potential and will continue to prosper.
